Can police officers give tickets if they’re not wearing their hats?

The answer is yes, they can. An officer doesn’t have to be wearing his/her hat to give you a ticket and it is not a defence to a ticket to show up in court and tell the Justice of the Peace this. I don’t know where this commonly held misconception came from – perhaps it’s true in some jurisdictions in the United States and people watched too many episodes of Cops, but it’s not true in Ontario.
